NIA CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (December 05, 2025) - The Nevis Appropriation (2026) Bill, 2025, along with the accompanying financial resolutions, has been passed in the Nevis Island Assembly.
The Bill, tabled on December 02 by Premier the Honourable Mark Brantley, Minister of Finance in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), was unanimously approved on December 04 following two days of substantive debate involving Members of Parliament on both the Government and Opposition benches.
Premier Brantley said the budget reflects his Administration’s collective commitment to responsible governance and prudent fiscal management, outlining the NIA’s plans and proposals for the upcoming fiscal year. He said the budget seeks to “lay the framework for development in a manner that harmonizes my Administration’s policies with the plans of our private sector partners in a way that will stimulate economic growth and lay the foundation for building our sustainable future”.
The 2026 budget, presented under the theme “A Purpose Driven Agenda: Building our Sustainable Future”, is set at $284.4 million, with a projected total overall revenue of $215.6 million.
The Premier emphasized that annual budgets represent projections for revenue and expenditure, adding that the pace at which the NIA implements its expenditure programme will depend on the government’s ability to source funding.
“I wish to assure the public that we will not be reckless and will only seek to undertake projects if the funding is available or can be accessed at low cost in accordance with our debt management strategy. Where funding cannot be accessed at concessionary rates, we will curtail our capital expenditure program and carry forward to the fiscal period 2027 any projects which were not executed due to lack of approved financing.”
He noted that his Administration has clearly outlined its policies for economic expansion and fiscal consolidation, along with its approaches to employment creation, crime prevention, debt consolidation, and infrastructure development.
Premier Brantley added that the programmes put forward are designed to empower citizens to achieve their fullest potential, expressing confidence that these combined policies and programmes will, over time, help to transform the island’s economy.
