Rotary Club of Liamuiga hosts successful Old Year’s Ball

Rotary Club of Liamuiga Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – January 7, 2010 - The Rotary Club of Liamuiga was one of many organisers of an Old Year’s event to usher in a new decade and a New Year. Organised to raise funds to support its community development work, this was the third year that the Club embarked on such an event.

As early as 11:30 patrons turned up in party mode, braving the showers that continued into the early hours of the morning.  By 3 am, there were over two hundred patrons who filled the Marriott Ball room enjoying the company of good friends, chatting over cocktails or dancing to the melodies of the live band.

A three hour open bar ensured that guests were never thirsty, while the Modern Image band with the perfect repertoire of music suited for a Ball kept the dance floor crowded all night.  After three hours of dancing, a most welcomed break was provided with the draw of the door prizes.  Made up of mostly dinners and lunches, a number of guests won vouchers that would entitle them to lunch or dinner at Serendipity, Ciao, Shiggidy Shack, Ziggy’s, Rock Lobster, Marshall’s and Sunshine’s.  The door prize of a 20 inch television set donated by Courts St. Kitts & Nevis and a 7day vacation at a Marriott time share donated by Director Paulette Warner and  Partner-in-Service Pat were the last to be drawn.  Two lucky male guests presented the matching stubs in the random draw for these prizes and were heartily congratulated by all.

On the stroke of 4 breakfast was served, with the foyer transformed into a buffet area.  Guests took a few minutes’ respite to enjoy the spread but lost no time in “winding” down the night through the final strains of the live band.  By this time a series of road march hits by local music icon Ellie Matt was added to the play list, much to the visual enjoyment of the dancers.

Many patrons congratulated members of the Rotary Club for hosting a most enjoyable night.  One guest went on record as saying that was the best Old Year’s event he had ever attended in St. Kitts, while another declared that she will be first in line to by her ticket next year.

When the final notes of Auld Langsyne were played at 6:30 in the morning, dozens of patrons were still on the dance floor.  The first sunrise of 2010 was here and the countdown was on for another ball.

The Board of Directors and members of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga thank the many persons who supported the ball as well as the numerous corporate sponsors who purchased tickets for their staff and donated prizes.
