By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- POLICE are investigating what is believed to be a suspected drowning incident that occurred on Wednesday evening (Dec. 17) in Dieppe Bay.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident took place between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Upon responding to the scene, officers found 40-year-old Travis Smithen of Rawlins Project, St. Paul’s, lying motionless along the shoreline.

Reports suggest that Smithen had been diving with friends when he became unresponsive in the water. He was subsequently brought ashore and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
