BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — FIRE officers are being commended for their tireless efforts in containing a late-night fire on College Street Ghaut on Sunday, December 22, limiting the damage to a single structure.
The blaze, which is believed to have started sometime after 9:00 p.m., prompted an immediate response from the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the fire.
According to information obtained by SKNVibes News, the affected structure was an abandoned wooden building that formerly housed the offices of the late Dr. Claxton.
Upon arrival, fire officers worked swiftly to bring the flames under control, applying water and fire suppressants while receiving support from an additional fire tender normally stationed at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
As firefighters battled the blaze and challenging conditions, several onlookers recorded videos of the incident. The fire was eventually brought under control sometime after 10:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.
While the structure was completely destroyed, the quick response of fire officers prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
