BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — THE Police Force reported a busy Boxing Day/J’ouvert period, during which several makeshift and illegal weapons were seized, along with several arrests.
Police this evening (Dec. 27) said that vehicle checkpoints and search operations conducted on Nevis, along with coordinated searches at the Charlestown Pier, the Sea Bridge, and the NASPA Oualie Water Taxi Facility and other locations, resulted in the confiscation of 41 pairs of scissors, two knives, three makeshift weapons, 57 lighters, four ski masks, and a quantity of cannabis.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), working in close collaboration with soldiers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), reported that law enforcement operations during the J’ouvert festivities on December 26, 2025 were largely successful, helping to ensure public safety during one of the Federation’s largest Carnival street events.
As a result of these operations, four individuals were taken into custody: one for wounding, two for disorderly conduct by fighting, and one for driving without a valid driver’s licence. One individual also received hospital treatment in connection with the wounding incident.
While the RSCNPF expressed encouragement at the overall cooperation shown by the majority of revellers, the Force also conveyed deep disappointment and concern that some individuals chose to attend Carnival events armed with weapons or items capable of causing serious harm. Police said such actions place lives at risk and undermine the spirit of celebration, culture, and community that Carnival is meant to represent.
The RSCNPF strongly advised persons with malicious intentions to think carefully before bringing weapons into public festivities, reminding the public that Carnival is a time to de-stress, not distress. While revellers are free to dance, fete, and enjoy themselves, poor decisions can quickly result in the loss of that freedom.
In its statement, the Police Force reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violence, weapons, and criminal behaviour during Carnival and throughout the year, warning that anyone who threatens public safety will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
