Police release details on Barnes Ghaut shooting

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis — POLICE have identified the victim of Saturday night’s homicide as 56-year-old Glenville “Guma” Sylvester Isles, who reportedly died from a gunshot wound to the head.

In a media statement, police said the incident occurred between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Barnes Ghaut area.

Officers responding to reports of gunshots discovered Isles lying on the ground in front of Spotlight Bar with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Early investigations indicate that Isles was seated inside the establishment when an unknown assailant approached and fired a single shot before fleeing the area.

The killing brings the number of homicides for the year to eight and comes amid recent praise for the Police Force and the Ministry of National Security over reported decline in gun violence across the Federation.

Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley recently acknowledged that while crime is trending downward, it does not always receive the same level of attention as rising crime. He noted that there remain pockets of concern on the island that police continue to monitor closely.

“I want to go on record to commend the Commissioner. I have to also go on record to commend the Honourable Minister with Responsibility for National Security and the entire team, including those in the High Command in Nevis, because I think we have seen a remarkable drop in violent crime in the country. And I think that all of us who are right-thinking should applaud that,” he stated.

Crime continues to trend downward, with the Federation recording significant double-digit reductions over the past two years. This improvement has been welcomed by key stakeholders, particularly within the tourism sector.

During the recent Budget Debate, the Leader of the Opposition also commended the Police Force and High Command for their revised approach to citizen security.

“I think it has yielded results, and I’m hopeful that the trends that we’re seeing will continue,” he added.
