Police advise caution following reports

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — THE Police Force is urging residents and visitors who use the Frigate Bay golf course and surrounding areas to exercise “increased personal awareness and caution.”

The appeal follows reports received by the Force, though officials did not specify the nature of the incidents. As a result, members of the public are being encouraged to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the Police.

Individuals are advised to remain alert to their surroundings, avoid complacency when moving through public spaces, and report suspicious behaviour immediately.

The Police Force said investigations into the reports are ongoing and that it is working closely with relevant security partners to address public safety concerns and prevent further incidents.

This advisory comes against the backdrop of Commissioner of Police James Sutton’s recent pledge to implement several strategies aimed at building on the reported decline in criminal activity in 2025.

During a recent press conference announcing the decrease, the Commissioner noted an escalation in interpersonal aggression, explaining that disputes are increasingly becoming physical more quickly.

He emphasized that crime statistics are not solely a measure of police performance, but rather a reflection of society’s conduct. “They are society’s report card,” Sutton said, noting that the figures reflect behaviours that are tolerated, excused, or addressed.

For 2026, the Police Force will continue to strengthen its mandate across five key areas: enhanced community policing with deeper neighbourhood engagement; technology-driven crime detection and prevention through improved data and intelligence systems; targeted enforcement against illegal firearms and repeat violent offenders; proactive crime prevention rather than reactive responses; and youth engagement focused on early intervention and diversion.

Police reiterated that preventing crime and violence requires the cooperation and involvement of society as a whole.
