BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — ATTORNEY General Garth Wilkin is expected to present the Federation’s human rights record at the United Nations on Tuesday, January 27.
St. Kitts and Nevis is among 13 jurisdictions scheduled for review next week under the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process. The review will be conducted by the UPR Working Group during meetings at the UN’s Geneva office.
This marks the fourth time the Federation will undergo the review. Previous UPR examinations of St. Kitts and Nevis were held in January 2011, November 2015, and January 2021.
The UPR process is based on three key documents: a national report submitted by the State under review; information compiled from reports by independent human rights experts, special procedures, treaty bodies, and other UN entities; and submissions from other stakeholders, including national human rights institutions, regional organizations, and civil society groups.
The three reports forming the basis of the review of St. Kitts and Nevis are publicly available through the United Nations.
