MIAMI, Florida (February 9, 2026) – Liberty Caribbean joins the international community in observing Safer Internet Day 2026 with a renewed focus on personal digital responsibility under the theme: “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI”. Safer Internet Day promotes safer, more responsible and more inclusive use of online technologies. This year’s theme highlights the importance of ethical, mindful decision-making as smart technologies, including artificial intelligence, become increasingly integrated into everyday life.

Liberty Caribbean joined parent company Liberty Latin America (LLA) for an internal, all-staff virtual panel discussion “Smart Tech, Safe Choices. A Better Internet”, bringing together cybersecurity leaders, community advocates and executives from across the LLA group.
The discussion explored hyperconnectivity, artificial intelligence, human decision-making and the shared responsibility required to create a safer digital environment. “Technology can be intelligent, but it does not replace judgment,” said Felipe Ruiz, Vice President, Information Security and CISO, Liberty Latin America.
“A safer internet begins with people, with the choices we make, the habits we build, and the awareness we share. When individuals understand their role in cybersecurity, communities become stronger and more resilient.”
In addition to internal engagement, Liberty Caribbean is once again partnering with schools and community organisations across its markets to deliver education and awareness sessions focused on online safety, data protection, scam awareness and responsible digital behaviour.
As of early 2026, the Caribbean and Latin America have become a top target for cybercriminals, with organisations facing an average of over 3,000 attacks weekly: a 26% year-over-year surge. Key threats include AI-driven phishing, data-leak extortions and ransomware.
