St. Kitts and Nevis Medicinal Cannabis Authority Concludes Successful Two-Week Engagement with Consultant Dr. Machel Emanuel

By: SKNMCA, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The St. Kitts and Nevis Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) has concluded a highly successful two-week programme of engagements facilitated by Consultant Dr. Machel Emanuel, marking a significant milestone in the continued development of the Federation’s medicinal cannabis sector.

During his visit, Dr. Emanuel participated in a comprehensive schedule of consultations, stakeholder meetings, public education activities, and media engagements aimed at strengthening regulatory readiness and advancing the sector toward full functionality.

As part of the engagement programme, the Authority hosted cultivators’ meetings on both St. Kitts and Nevis, each of which recorded strong attendance and featured robust, solution-oriented discussions. These sessions provided cultivators and prospective participants with clarity on the regulatory framework, compliance expectations, and the Authority’s vision for an inclusive and sustainable medicinal cannabis industry.

Public education and outreach were further enhanced through media appearances on InFocus on ZIZ Television and the radio programme On The Mark with Premier Mark Brantley on VON Radio in Nevis, allowing the wider public to gain insight into the objectives of the Authority and the national medicinal cannabis programme.

Dr. Emanuel and the Authority also engaged in a series of high-level meetings with key institutions and stakeholders, including the Chief Medical Officer, members of the medical fraternity, the Bureau of Standards, the Police High Command, and several Government stakeholder agencies and departments. Additionally, a meeting was held with the Premier of Nevis, further underscoring the importance of intergovernmental collaboration in advancing the sector.

A highlight of the visit was the public lecture, which attracted strong public support and encouraged meaningful audience participation and dialogue. The engagement reaffirmed public interest in the role of medicinal cannabis as a contributor to national development and public health.

The Medicinal Cannabis Authority notes that the dialogues throughout the two-week visit were fruitful and constructive, and all feedback and recommendations shared will be carefully considered as the sector transitions toward full operationalisation.

The Authority further advises that the application process for participation in the medicinal cannabis sector is now open. Application forms may be collected from the Medicinal Cannabis Authority Office on Princes Street, and licensing is expected to commence shortly.

The Medicinal Cannabis Authority extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Machel Emanuel, all stakeholders, and members of the public who participated in the engagements, and remains committed to transparent, inclusive, and well-regulated sector development.
