Pope’s Easter message calls for hope and compassion in a troubled world

WASHINGTON, DC -- IN his Easter message to the world, Pope Leo delivered a call for hope and compassion, reminding faithfuls that the resurrection of Christ represents new life and victory over death, even amid the struggles of modern life.

Addressing the gathering during the Easter celebration at the Vatican, the Pontiff said that Easter is a time when all of creation is resplendent with new light, as Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise of new life.

The Pope acknowledged that the message of Easter is not always easy to accept, especially in a world filled with suffering, injustice, violence, and uncertainty. He noted that many people today feel overwhelmed by personal struggles such as loneliness, disappointment, worry, and the burdens of daily life, which can make hope seem distant.

He also pointed to global challenges, including poverty, oppression, war, and what he described as the exploitation of the earth’s resources for profit, saying these realities continue to cause pain and suffering, particularly among the most vulnerable.

Despite these challenges, the Pope emphasized that the resurrection of Christ offers a hope that never fades and a light that cannot be overcome by darkness. He said Easter represents a new beginning for humanity and reminds believers that even in moments of despair, new life and renewal are possible.

Drawing on the Gospel account of the resurrection, he encouraged believers to follow the example of Mary Magdalene and the Apostles by sharing the message of hope and living out the joy of the resurrection in their daily lives.

The Pope ended his message with a prayer for peace, urging people everywhere to carry hope into their communities and to work toward a more compassionate and just world.

“May Christ, our Passover, bless us and grant peace to the whole world,” the Pope said.
