PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago – AN unidentified woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine into St. Kitts.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the woman was held on Easter Monday (April 6) while preparing to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to the Federation from Piarco International Airport.
Police said that around 10:55 a.m., a Woman Estate Constable conducting routine screening at a security checkpoint noticed anomalies during a scan of the passenger. The woman, a Trinidadian national from Carenage, was then taken to a search room for further checks.
During the search, officers reportedly discovered a pink balloon strapped to her waist containing 17 pellets of cocaine, with a total weight of 281.5 grammes.
A further search of her carry-on bag led to the discovery of US$5,189 and TT$30 in cash.
The woman was subsequently arrested in connection with the find. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
