WASHINGTON, DC – UNITED States President Donald Trump was on Saturday evening (Apr. 25) escorted from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) after what sounded like gunshots were heard.
The event, hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, was underway when security personnel quickly moved the president off the stage following the reported sounds.
The incident unfolded during a live broadcast carried by national and international television networks. Video footage circulating online shows Secret Service agents surrounding Trump and ushering him away from the podium.
According to the Associated Press, the FBI has taken one individual into custody.
Speaking during a media briefing later that evening, the president said the suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest and was armed with multiple weapons when authorities approached the location.
This is a developing story.
