Nevis, St. Kitts & Nevis — April 2026 -- A new and groundbreaking cultural experience will debut on Nevis on April 29, marking what is being described as a shift in Caribbean tourism offerings.
Created by Greg Phillip, CEO of Nevis Sun Tours, The Trial of Hamilton & Nelson is an immersive courtroom production that places two globally significant historical figures - Alexander Hamilton and Horatio Nelson, on trial simultaneously.
Unlike traditional tours or performances, this production invites the audience to take on an active role. Through real-time digital voting, attendees serve as the jury, delivering verdicts on each charge and influencing the outcome of the trial.
“This is not about telling history,” said Phillip. “It is about interacting with it, engaging with it in a meaningful way and being responsible for how we understand and judge it.”
The concept is built on the remarkable parallels between Hamilton and Nelson, both of whom share deep connections to Nevis. Hamilton by birth and Nelson through marriage. Their lives, shaped by war, power, controversy, and complexity, make them uniquely suited to face the same charges in a single trial.
The production explores themes that remain highly relevant today, including:
- Immigration and identity — who can claim a place
- War, conquest, and freedom
- Integrity in public life
- Slavery and accountability
“This Court brings four charges against two men,” the production declares, as it challenges audiences to examine history not as a fixed narrative, but as something to be questioned, understood, and judged.
Other powerful lines from the production include:
“Birth is an accident. Love is a decision.”
“Is every personal failing of a public figure properly the subject of indictment?”
“Where there is guilt… punishment must follow.”
The production features a fully local cast of experienced actors, several of whom have appeared in recent international film productions shot on Nevis, further reinforcing the island’s growing role as a hub for creative and cultural expression. Phillip notes that the creation of the production presented its own challenge.
“Having spent years working with Hamilton’s story, I expected him to prevail,” he said. “But the history did not allow for easy conclusions. That is the same position we now place the audience in.”
Following its debut, The Trial of Hamilton & Nelson is expected to become a permanent, bookable cultural experience, offering visitors to St. Kitts and Nevis a distinctive and intellectually engaging addition to the destination.
