    Carriacou-Under a clear, starry night the 2010 Carriacou Carnival season was launched with a full display of several components of Carnival, including the indigenous Shakespeare Mas, Jab Jab and a stirring performance by the Unity Steelband.

     

    Additional live entertainment was provided by several Artistes who have already recorded songs for the 2010 carnival season in Carriacou. The 2009 reigning Soca Monarch of Carriacou, Black Blingers gave their fans reason to be hopeful of a repeat after an exciting performance. 2009 Calypso Monarch, Leftist also gave a taste of his 2010 offerings.

     

    The 2009 Road March and Soca Monarch, Mr. Killa along with, perennial soca monarch finalists brought some of the energy and flavor from Mainland to begin the festivities that are Carriacou Carnival.

     

    Mr. Kirk Seetahal the Marketing Manager of main sponsor Digicel, expressed his company’s continued support of culture in Carriacou and backed up those words by announcing the another three-year contract for sponsorship of carnival.

     

    Before declaring the season open, Minster of State with responsibility for Culture, ICT and Information Senator Arley Gill, pointed out some of the changes that will take place for the 2010 Carriacou Carnival season. The changes were agreed to after consultations with cultural stakeholders in Carriacou.

     

    The changes include, moving the Calypso finals from Sunday night to Friday night and moving the Soca Monarch finals from Friday night to Sunday night. All the major events of the 2010 carnival season in Carriacou will take place at the Lauriston mini-stadium, with the jouvert on Monday morning commencing at the mini-stadium and ending in Hillsborough.

     

    The immediate feedback to the launch and the announced changes has been very positive and within the next few weeks advertising will intensify to encourage as many persons as possible to celebrate carnival on February 15th and 16th in Carriacou.
