BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS Guyana celebrates its 60th Independence Anniversary, attention has once again been placed on the strong relationship between the South American nation and St. Kitts and Nevis.

As part of the celebrations, the Guyanese Association in St. Kitts and Nevis, along with members of the wider community, gathered at the Newtown Playfield for a Food Fair and Family Fun Day. Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew was among those taking in the sights and sounds of the event.

Speaking with SKNVibes News, Prime Minister Drew described the relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis and Guyana as “excellent on all levels”.

“From a government standpoint within CARICOM, and in terms of our relationship with the Government of Guyana presently, it is extremely good,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that he recently travelled to Guyana, where several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed with the government and President Irfaan Ali.

“That is really an indication of how strong our relationship is,” he added.

Reflecting on the milestone celebration, Dr. Drew said he was pleased to join members of the Guyanese community in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“To be here at this activity celebrating with the Guyanese community in St. Kitts and Nevis, I feel very good among the people who are here,” he stated.

Dr. Drew also highlighted the contributions Guyanese nationals continue to make to the Federation’s development.

“Our government has been very proactive in ensuring that Guyanese nationals who are here — hardworking people contributing to our national development — are able to live well and raise their families in a favourable environment,” he said.

He added that many members of the Guyanese community have become fully integrated into society, with some now citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“I really want to express, on behalf of St. Kitts and Nevis, our deep appreciation for the Guyanese community — a community that has contributed and continues to contribute to national development,” the Prime Minister said.
