Nevis Disaster Management Department announces Official Emergency Shelters for 2026

    LONG POINT, NEVIS (May 27, 2026) - The Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) informs the public of the officially designated Emergency Shelters for the 2026 Hurricane Season and other emergencies across Nevis.

     

    As part of ongoing preparedness efforts, residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the nearest emergency shelter and make necessary arrangements for themselves and their families well before any hazard event. The Department emphasizes that preparedness, community awareness, and coordinated response are critical to safeguarding lives and reducing the impact of disasters.

     

    The following facilities have been designated as official Emergency Shelters for 2026:

     

    St. Paul

     

    ·     Girls Guides Headquarters*

     

    St. John

     

    ·     Pond Hill Community Center

     

    St. George

     

    ·     Ebenezer Church of God

     

    ·      Charles L. Walters Community Center

     

    St. James

     

    ·     Franklyn Browne Community Center

     

    St. Thomas

     

    ·     Jessup Community Center

     

    ·     Cotton Ground Community Center

     

    ·     Barnes Ghaut Community Center

     

    The public is reminded of the following:

     

    • Emergency shelters provide temporary refuge during emergencies.

     

    • Shelters should be used only when officially activated by authorities.

     

    • Residents are encouraged to secure important personal and legal documents.

     

    • Stay informed through official communication channels.

     

    • Follow all instructions issued by disaster management and emergency response officials.

     

    Further information on shelter protocols, activation procedures, preparedness guidance, and public advisories will be shared through official media, community outreach programs, and NDMD channels.
