BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – It was certainly a time of true bliss last weekend when Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Curtis Martin tied the knot of eternal love on January 9 and began a new chapter in his life.
Martin showed no pre-wedding nerves as he confidently strolled down the aisle and awaited his beautiful bride Cashmine Thompson, originally from St. Paul’s Village.
The bridal party, draped in shimmering bronzes and browns, was comprised of the couple’s closest family and friends. Seconds before the arrival of the bride, a white silk cloth was rolled down the aisle, leading to a standalone floral gazebo on the lower end of the lawn that overlooked Basseterre and the Caribbean Sea.
In the mellow of smooth steel pan music and the blowing of a cool breeze, the glorious bride took the audience with her presence as sunlight from the setting sun lit up the silk walkway. It was truly an awe-inspiring ceremony.
The private event took place at his home in Stapleton Estate, transforming his open lawn into a romantic wedding setting against the greenery of mountains and hills. With a guest list of just about 60, including Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Hon. Cedric Liburd, Martin and his bride were supported by family, co-workers, friends and old classmates.
Both the bride and groom were employed at telecommunications provider LIME, when the spark of love moved both to a place of greater commitment.
“I decided to take a new path in my life. It is certainly a new chapter of my life, unchartered waters. But, I will be the architect and engineer of this new venture. My wife has been a source of tremendous support and inspiration and we will continue to support each other. I want to thank our parents and friends for their continued moral support as we build a family together,” Martin told SKNVibes following his exchange of vows on Saturday.
Special thanks were extended to Geoffrey and Adaeze Hanley, the wedding planners, who in the words of Martin, did an excellent job in ensuring that everything was done with a touch of perfection.
Martin took the oath of allegiance as Speaker of the House in April 2008, making history as the youngest individual to assume such a position. Today (Jan. 12), the new couple has taken their honeymoon escape in St. Lucia to enjoy the early days of their new life together.
