BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — POLICE have confirmed that Chinese national Ziyuan Wang, who was reported missing while hiking on Mount Liamuiga and was later found dead, died as a result of a fall.

According to a statement issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), Wang's body was discovered on June 1, 2026, in a ravine located some distance from the established hiking trail.

A post-mortem examination conducted on June 9 determined that the 33-year-old died from injuries sustained after falling from a significant height. Authorities noted that there was no evidence of foul play and that the findings are consistent with a tragic accident.

Wang, a Chinese national and visiting cruise ship crew member, was reported missing on May 27 after becoming lost while hiking alone in the Mount Liamuiga mountain range without a guide.

Police said Wang was last seen on the trail at approximately 10:00 a.m. that day. He was reportedly dressed in black clothing and red shoes.

At about 2:00 p.m., Wang contacted emergency services via 911 and reported that he was lost in the mountains. Communication with him was subsequently lost.

A joint search and rescue operation was immediately launched, involving the RSCNPF, the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, the Fire and Rescue Services, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and several volunteer groups. Search teams continued operations throughout the evening of May 27 and resumed efforts the following morning, combing the mountainside up to the crater area.

Following the conclusion of the search, the police force expressed gratitude to the many agencies and individuals who participated in the operation.
