Sometimes the most meaningful changes begin with a single student and a caring heart
June 15th, 2026 -- After watching a TED Talk about a Buddy Bench—a special bench where students can sit if they are feeling sad, lonely, or simply need a friend—Grade 5 student Zalia was deeply inspired. She immediately saw the value such a space could bring to our SKI community and approached Principal James with a simple question:
"Can we create something like this at SKI?"
The answer was an enthusiastic YES!
With the support of her parents, Zalia developed a plan and set out to bring her vision to life. She worked hard to raise funds both at home and at school, while a generous SKI parent donated all of the paint needed for the project. Together with her classmates, Zalia helped design and transform the bench into a beautiful symbol of friendship, kindness, and belonging.
This project is a wonderful reminder of what makes SKI Academy so special. Acts of compassion, empathy, and service are not simply things we talk about—they are part of who we are.
Today, the Buddy Bench has become a focal point of our campus, spreading joy and serving as a reminder that no one has to face a difficult moment alone.
A heartfelt thank you to Zalia, her family, the wider SKI community, her classmates, and Ms. Arora for helping bring this incredible vision to life.
At SKI, we believe that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.
