Prime Minister Dr. Drew proudly unveils new EC$50 banknote featuring The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw

By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, July 10, 2026 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, had the distinct honour on Thursday, July 09, 2026, to proudly unveil the redesigned Eastern Caribbean (EC) $50 banknote that now features the image of The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw – a fitting tribute to one of the Federation’s most revered national leaders and a prominent figure in regional development.

The redesigned EC currency marks a historic milestone in the evolution of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). For the first time, the banknotes will no longer feature the likeness of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Instead, the new designs honour distinguished national heroes and nation builders from across the eight ECCU member countries, reflecting the region’s shared identity, heritage and achievements.

The new EC$50 banknote features The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw alongside former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, The Honourable Sir K. Dwight Venner.

The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw was the first Premier of Saint Kitts and Nevis and devoted his public life to advancing the welfare and well-being of his people while championing the cause of Caribbean unity.

At its 105th Meeting on 21 July 2023, the ECCB Monetary Council approved the replacement of the image of the late Queen Elizabeth II on EC currency and directed the ECCB to undertake public consultations. Prime Minister Drew expressed pleasure in having served as a member of the Monetary Council when this historic decision was taken, culminating in a redesigned currency that more fully reflects the identity, achievements and aspirations of the people of the Eastern Caribbean.

The redesigned banknotes were officially unveiled during the Ceremony to Mark the Change in Chairmanship of the ECCB Monetary Council at the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
