LONDON, United Kingdom, July 22, 2026 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, has issued a compelling call for Africa, the Caribbean and the global African diaspora to transform their shared history into a future defined by economic cooperation, investment and sustainable prosperity.
Delivering the keynote address at the Royal African Society’s 125th Anniversary Flagship Business Event at the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Prime Minister Drew urged governments, investors, financial institutions and business leaders to move beyond historical ties and establish stronger commercial and institutional partnerships that create lasting opportunities for future generations.
Addressing an audience of policymakers, investors, diplomats and business executives, Dr. Drew described “Global Africa” as one of the world’s greatest untapped investment opportunities and encouraged greater collaboration to unlock the immense economic potential of both Africa and the Caribbean.
“We have inherited a shared history. We must now construct a shared economy,” said Dr. Drew, while stressing that family ties between Africa and the Caribbean must extend beyond culture and heritage to include greater investment, trade, entrepreneurship and institutional development. “Family must mean more than shared memory. Families must invest together. Families must trade together. Families must build institutions together,” he added.
Prime Minister Drew highlighted the importance of developing stronger trade routes, modern payment systems, improved transportation links and greater mobility between Africa and the Caribbean. He also encouraged deeper collaboration between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that such partnerships would unlock significant opportunities for businesses, innovators and entrepreneurs across both regions.
He further outlined Saint Kitts and Nevis’ leadership in advancing Africa-Caribbean cooperation through its partnership with Afreximbank, participation in successive Afri-Caribbean Investment Summits, and its selection to host the fifth AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF).
Dr. Drew said that the time has come for Global Africa to build the institutions, infrastructure and partnerships necessary to create inclusive and sustainable economic growth, ensuring that future generations benefit from increased trade, investment and innovation.
He concluded by calling for a new era in which Africa and the Caribbean become equal partners in shaping global economic development through cooperation, shared ownership and mutual prosperity.
