Prime Minister Drew showcases Sustainable Island State Agenda as model for resilient and inclusive development

By: SKNIS, Press Release

LONDON, United Kingdom, July 22, 2026 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, used the international platform of the Royal African Society's 125th Anniversary Flagship Business Event at the London Stock Exchange to showcase the Federation's Sustainable Island State Agenda as a bold blueprint for resilient, people-centred development.

Addressing global business leaders, investors and policymakers, Prime Minister Drew outlined the country's long-term vision of transforming Saint Kitts and Nevis into the world's first Sustainable Island State by 2040, emphasizing that sustainability and economic growth must advance together.

The prime minister explained that the national strategy is built on seven interconnected pillars, including water security, renewable energy, food and nutrition security, sustainable industries, resilient communities, the circular economy, and health and social protection.

“This is not merely an environmental programme. It is a comprehensive national development strategy designed to create greater independence, resilience and prosperity,” said Dr. Drew.

Dr. Drew detailed the Federation's investments in geothermal and solar energy, water infrastructure, climate-smart agriculture, healthcare, housing, education, technology and the creative economy, all aimed at building a stronger, more self-reliant nation.

He said the Sustainable Island State Agenda represents a new development model that places people at the centre of national progress while creating opportunities for responsible investment and long-term economic resilience.

“It is not sustainable without growth. It is sustainable growth. It is not development at the expense of people. It is development centred on people,” said the prime minister.

Dr. Drew invited international investors to partner with Saint Kitts and Nevis in advancing renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, agriculture and technology, stressing that the Government seeks investment that creates employment, transfers knowledge and strengthens local institutions.

The prime minister noted that the Federation's development strategy demonstrates that small island developing states can become global leaders by embracing innovation, resilience and sustainability while remaining competitive in an evolving global economy.

He reaffirmed that Saint Kitts and Nevis remains committed to building a future where economic growth, environmental stewardship and social progress work together to improve the lives of all citizens.
