BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the general election expected to be called in the coming weeks, the People's Action Movement (PAM) has announced a major leadership change as it ramps up preparations for the campaign.
The party confirmed today (Jul. 27) that its Political Leader, Natasha Grey-Brookes, has resigned from the post, effective Friday, July 31, 2026, while reaffirming her commitment to contest the St. Christopher One constituency and help lead the party's push for victory at the polls.
In a media statement, PAM said Grey-Brookes' decision came after "careful consultation and thoughtful reflection" on the party's electoral strategy.
According to the party, Grey-Brookes described her resignation as a strategic move aimed at strengthening PAM's election campaign and improving its chances of forming the next government, while allowing her to focus more fully on what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
"At this critical time in our nation's history, every decision must be guided by what gives our Party the strongest opportunity to earn the confidence of the people and to bring about the change our country so desperately needs," she said.
Teh Attorney-at-Law noted that by stepping aside as Political Leader, "I will be able to devote my full energy and attention to ensuring victory in each constituency".
PAM also reaffirmed its confidence in Grey-Brookes and said the process to elect a new Political Leader, in accordance with the party's constitution, will now begin.
The announcement follows days of speculation on social media that Grey-Brookes was being forced out of the leadership position. Unconfirmed reports suggested she faced a strong challenge during a recent meeting of the party's executive.
Neither Grey-Brookes nor the party addressed those claims in today's statement.
PAM is seeking to return to office after more than a decade in opposition and unseat the Dr. Terrance Drew-led St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party in the upcoming general election.
