BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OUTGOING Political Leader of the People's Action Movement (PAM), Natasha Grey-Brooks, says she is still weighing her political future after announcing her resignation from the party's top post.
PAM confirmed earlier this week that Grey-Brooks will step down as Political Leader as the party restructures ahead of the expected General Election campaign.
In a lengthy statement posted to social media, the attorney-at-law said the decision followed months of careful consideration.
"After much prayer, deep reflection, and many difficult conversations, as you are aware, I have made the decision to step down as Political Leader of the People's Action Movement."
Her resignation comes amid months of speculation about divisions within the party. Social media commentators have claimed there has been internal infighting and even a recent leadership challenge, although those reports have not been officially confirmed.
Grey-Brooks acknowledged the personal toll of the decision. "This has not been an easy decision. In fact, it has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life."
Reflecting on her time as leader, she described it as one of the greatest honours of her life.
"Serving as your Political Leader has been one of the greatest honours I have ever known. It gave me the opportunity to travel throughout our beloved Federation, to sit in your homes, to listen to your stories, to share your joys and your struggles, and to better understand the hopes and dreams of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis," she explained.
"I entered this role because I genuinely believed, and still believe, that our country deserves the very best. Every decision I made, every meeting I attended, every sacrifice I endured was driven by one simple desire: to help build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis for every citizen."
She admitted the role was challenging from the outset.
"From the very first day I accepted this responsibility, it was a challenge. It was not easy."
Grey-Brooks said there were many moments when the burden of leadership became overwhelming. She also spoke about the unique pressures she faced as a woman in politics.
"As a woman in politics, I quickly learned that we often have to work ten times harder to prove ourselves. We are scrutinized differently, judged more harshly, and expected to carry burdens that many never see. Yet I refused to allow those realities to define me.
"I pushed through every obstacle. I stood firm through criticism. I persevered through adversity. I gave everything I had. I have no regrets about giving my all."
While stepping aside as leader, she reaffirmed her belief in the party.
"The People's Action Movement is larger than any one individual. It is a proud institution that has served this nation for 61 years. It has shaped generations of leaders and contributed tremendously to the development of St. Kitts and Nevis."
Grey-Brooks also expressed gratitude to supporters in East Basseterre and across the country, including those who defended her publicly.
Looking ahead, the outgoing leader said she will spend the coming days with family, loved ones and a small circle of trusted advisers before deciding her next political move.
PAM is now entering what many observers have described as a rebuilding phase as it seeks to position itself for the next General Election. While no election date has been announced, political parties have already begun mobilising supporters and preparing for what is expected to be a fiercely contested campaign.
