BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 13TH 2010 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday that the Political leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Mr. Lindsay F. P. Grant in his confession of wrongdoing clearly established the negotiations for a US$1.7 million bride on behalf of his party.
"Whether or not it is for his party, it is still a bride," said Prime Minister Douglas, who contended that to date the public has only heard Mr. Grant’s confession admitting wrongdoing.
Dr. Douglas further called on the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber and Commerce, the St. Kitts Evangelical Association and the St. Kitts Christian Council, to take serious concern of the admission of guilt.
“It is still a bribe. It is corruption. It is one of his own C-s – Corruption, Crime and Cost of Living – that he says must be used to condemn the Labour Government,” said Prime Minister Douglas at Five Ways in Central Basseterre.
He said that Mr. Grant has displayed serious tendencies towards serious corruption, poor judgement and dishonesty as a result of greed.
“Not with his own property at Sir Gilles, but with the land that belongs to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, said Prime Minister Douglas, who pointed out that it was Mr. Grant who suggested the bribe money be increased from US$1.5 million to US$1.7 million.
“So far we are only hearing Mr. Grant’s confession. The public wants to hear the rest of the story. Why did he disclose it to the public when no one had accused him? What is the reason? Is there something else that we do not know and that he is afraid of?” asked Prime Minister Douglas.
“He has also demonstrated lack of good leadership qualities, poor judgment, low morals and lack of decency and a disrespectful of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas.
