BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 12th 2010 (PAM Secretariat) - People’s Action Movement Constituency Two Representative, Roy Fleming has predicted a resounding victory for his party, stressing that one of its first business is to address the growing challenges and difficulties face by workers.
Fleming made this disclosure while speaking at a public meeting held in Sandy Point on Sunday evening. He pointed out that the current challenges and difficulties faced by workers under the Labour administration would be seriously addressed as PAM recognizes the urgency of eradicating the many social ills.
He noted that the treatment of workers and their rights continue to trampled upon. He urged party supporters to recognize the significance and importance of their vote, stressing that PAM would immediately go to work when elected to eradicate the challenges and difficulties.
“Electing a PAM administration will certainly ensure that workers are able to have their issues and concerns seriously and immediately addressed,” Fleming told an excited crowd.
Fleming made reference to the Government, pointing out that it has undoubtedly served to encourage private employers to emulate Labour’s behaviour. He noted that the practices being exhibited by Government in which workers are discriminated and victimized because of their political affiliation has to stop immediately, stressing that it’s the right of every worker to support a party of his/her choice.
He appealed to workers to send a strong message to the Government in order to register the power that they have, so the Labour administration would understand that it should be Government’s top priority to ensure workers rights and conditions are protected.
He said that since being elected, the Labour Government continues to systematically deprive workers of elements designed for their protection. As such, he noted that many doors previously opened have been closed because of people’s political affiliation, stressing that persons are only benefiting once they agree to support the Labour Party.
“Workers should not be approached when its election time only, as you have issues that need to be addressed all year round and therefore I appeal to you to elect a PAM Government, thus ensuring that workers rights are properly protected and enhanced,” he said.
Fleming said that when elected, there are a number of changes that his administration would be making to ensure workers are able to have better opportunities and conditions to work under. He reminded them that as Election Day approaches, they should be cognizant of the many serious threats to the welfare and well-being of all, declaring that Change is evident and all are welcomed on board.
He encouraged his audience to bear for a “little bit longer” as his party would be victorious, noting that it is not a promise but rather a commitment of the People’s Action Movement to protect and enhance workers’ rights irrespective of their political affiliation.
“We do not believe in discrimination and victimization and, therefore, I offer you my sincere commitment that we will serve you as you would have elected us to address your issues and concerns. We will humbly do just that,” he assured supporters.
