PAM up the ante for security following assassination threat

Leader of the People’s Action Movement Lindsay Grant

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 13th 2010 (PAM Secretariat) - The People’s Action Movement (PAM) has pulled out all stops in upping security for its candidates after recent disclosure of a plot to assassinate the party’s Leader, Lindsay Grant.

The stunning disclosure of the plot was revealed by Grant while speaking to a massive crowd of supporters on Tuesday evening at Central Street. Grant told the stunned crowd that he was reliably informed of the plot, which is geared at eliminating him in an effort to ensure that the Labour Party remains in office.

“I want to say that no weapons formed against me shall prosper. My life is protected by the Almighty and He decides when it is time for me to go,” Grant said.

Grant noted that his intelligence arm within the party has up the ante for security of himself and the other candidates, as they recognize the importance of the election and the desperation in which the Labour Party wants it.

“They (Labour Party) will try all and everything but I am not afraid; and if they want to kill me they can come. I have been place on this earth for one purpose, and that is to champion the cause of my people, and regardless of what they want to try nothing is going to stop me…so I am not afraid,” Grant declared.

The party Leader stressed that no threat would deter him or his candidates from contesting the upcoming elections. “We have an election to win and I want to reiterate to all my supporters that I remain committed and steadfast in taking the Federation out of the dilemma that it has found itself, as a result of crime, high cost of living and corruption,” Grant said.

In 2009, two candidates were severely affected as a result of attacks launched on them. Party Deputy Political Leader Eugene Hamilton was attacked in Old Road, resulting in him having to seek medical treatment overseas, while Constituency Three representative Bernard Welsh ‘s wife was assaulted after intruders broke into their home.

In 1994 William ‘Billy’ Herbert, founder of the party, mysteriously disappeared while on a fishing trip at sea. Neither Herbert nor any member of his fishing party was ever found.
