Mrs. Vernice “Debbie” Williams, widow of SPBS Founder & President, to be honored with 2026 Distinguished Service and Legacy Award at Dr. Stewart O. Williams Awards Gala in New York.

By: SPBS, Press Release

Bronx, NY – Mrs. Vernice Williams has devoted her life to serving her country, her patients, her family, and her community. She is the proud mother of three daughters and grandmother of two grandchildren. She shared more than 40 years of marriage with her late husband, Dr. Stewart O. Williams. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, love, perseverance, and service.

Vernice began her career in the United States Army, serving honorably for six years and attaining the rank of Sergeant. Her military experience shaped the discipline, leadership, resilience, and sense of duty that guided her throughout her life.

Following her military service, Vernice pursued nursing. She earned an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Montgomery County Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Immaculata University.

For more than 26 years, she served patients and families at Abington Hospital, now Jefferson Health. Her experience included Medical-Surgical Nursing, Telemetry, and Stroke Care. Known for her professionalism, empathy, and calm presence, she also served as a preceptor, mentoring and training newly licensed nurses.

Vernice later joined Aetna/CVS Health as a Nurse Case Manager, where she guided patients through complex healthcare systems, coordinated care, and connected families with vital resources. Her career reflected a lasting commitment to advocacy, education, and compassionate care.

Vernice was also a dedicated supporter of the Sandy Point Benevolent Society, Inc. Working alongside her late husband, the organization’s founder and president, she helped advance its mission of expanding educational opportunities and empowering future generations.

In March 2026, Vernice retired after more than three decades of military and healthcare service. She now enjoys spending time with her family, creating memories with her grandchildren, traveling, and celebrating the rewards of a life well lived.

Vernice V. Williams’ legacy is reflected in the many lives she has touched through her service, professional excellence, compassionate leadership, and devotion to family and community.

This year's Awards Gala is being held at Maestros Catering Hall, 1703 Bronxdale Ave, Bronx, NY under the inspiring theme: "Rooted in Service, Grounded in Giving Back." Tickets are $140 before August 25, 2026.
