CARICOM Secretariat | Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana | Thursday, 27 August 2026: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will partner with regional institution, the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA), and COLEAD, to host a webinar under the theme ‘Climate-Resilient Agriculture in the Caribbean: Adaptation, Mitigation and Innovation.’
The 90-minute discussion, scheduled for 3 September at 10:00 am AST, will focus on the general principles of climate change, and adaptation and mitigation measures in the agricultural sector.
Dr. Pieterjan De Bauw, Senior Project Manager for Research and Innovation Brokerage at COLEAD, will lead the session. Dr. De Bauw holds a PhD in Bioscience Engineering (Agronomy) from KU Leuven (Belgium) and has extensive experience in sustainable agriculture and food systems across Europe and Africa. At COLEAD, he coordinates research on sustainable crop production, integrated pest management, soil and plant health, and horticultural value chains. His work includes overseeing field trials, developing sustainable practices for ACP contexts, and contributing to scientific publications and technical guidance.
The webinar is being held as CARICOM continues to pursue its goal of reducing the Region’s food import bill by 25 per cent by 2030 through the Vision 25 by 2025+5 initiative, with climate-smart adaptation recognised as a priority area for enhancing regional food security.
