Simpson Bay, St. Maarten - August 21, 2026 - Windward Islands Airways International (WINAIR) N.V. today announced that it has successfully achieved registration under both the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA) programs. This landmark accomplishment makes Winair the only airline worldwide currently holding both registrations concurrently.
Winair operates two aircraft categories: the DHC-6 Twin Otter, assessed under ISSA, and the ATR 42, audited under IOSA. By successfully completing both programs, Winair has earned internationally recognized safety credentials across its entire fleet, demonstrating that its operations meet applicable IATA safety standards regardless of aircraft type.
The dual registration distinguishes Winair within the global airline industry and establishes a new safety benchmark for regional aviation in the Caribbean. Winair is also the only regional Caribbean airline currently registered under IOSA, further reinforcing its position as a regional
leader in operational safety.
“Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Winair,” said Hans van de Velde, CEO of Winair. “Achieving both IOSA and ISSA registration is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and a defining milestone in our strategy to connect the Caribbean with the world through
trusted, seamless partnerships.
“I want to thank our exceptional team for its professionalism and commitment. These registrations demonstrate that Winair’s organization, operations, and processes meet the highest applicable standards.”
Winair began its journey toward IOSA and ISSA registration in early 2024. The process started with internal IOSA auditor training for responsible managers, followed by extensive preparation across flight operations, cabin operations, ground operations, maintenance, cargo, security, and organizational management.
These registrations strengthen Winair’s ability to pursue expanded codeshare and interline partnerships with leading international carriers. Such partnerships could provide passengers with greater access to seamless, multidestination itineraries connecting the Caribbean with Europe, North America, South America, and beyond.
This achievement reflects the commitment and collective effort of employees throughout Winair and marks a defining step in the airline’s continued development as a safe, reliable, and trusted regional carrier.
