Basseterre, St. Kitts – September 23, 2026 – The Samuel-Williams Playfield in Verchilds is set to become the centre of attention on Sunday, September 27, when the People’s Action Movement stages its 60th National Convention, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The convention comes at an important point in the Movement’s history, following the election of Dr. the Hon. Shawn Richards as its sixth Political Leader earlier this month. The new leadership will be formally presented to the wider membership at Convention 60, which is also expected to include the ratification of the party’s executive.
Adding an international dimension to the occasion will be the convention’s Diamond Anniversary Keynote Speaker, the Hon. Alando Terrelonge of Jamaica.
Terrelonge brings an accomplished and diverse background to the Convention 60 platform. Born and raised in Grants Pen, St. Andrew, he pursued law at the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School before receiving a prestigious Chevening Scholarship to undertake postgraduate studies at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. He subsequently worked in Madrid on issues related to democracy and international peace and security before returning to Jamaica, where he became a commentator on law, politics and social issues and later entered elective politics.
His public service has included responsibility in areas spanning education, youth, information, culture, gender, entertainment and sport. He currently serves as Jamaica’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
The Convention 60 programme is designed around participation, with presentations from candidates and constituencies complemented by entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening.
Described by the party as a rally-style convention, delegates are being encouraged to come prepared for an interactive experience, with comfortable wear recommended as speakers look to engage the audience and encourage active participation.
There will also be opportunities for delegates to take home prizes. Amazon gift cards valued at US$75 will be among the convention’s door prizes, while an Apple iPad will be available through a raffle open to all attendees.
For Dr. Shawn Richards, Convention 60 represents an opportunity to set the tone for the next chapter of the People's Action Movement.
“The evolution of PAM into a bold and forceful opposition party is underway. As the main opposition in St. Kitts and Nevis, we intend, under my leadership, to excite the base again as we go forward with the one intention to form the next government,” Dr. Richards said.
Convention 60 also marks another milestone in the history of the People's Action Movement. The party was formed in 1965 and celebrated its 60th anniversary as a political organisation in 2025.
With its new leadership, a distinguished regional keynote speaker, a rally-style programme and a strong emphasis on participation, Convention 60 will provide an opportunity for members and supporters to gather as the party marks another milestone in its history and looks toward its next chapter.
