KINGSTON, Jamaica-WEST INDIES pace bowler Jerome Taylor is scheduled face charges of improper conduct, using indecent language, assaulting an officer of the law and resisting arrest on February 9 following a New Year’s Eve altercation.
According to reports out of Jamaica, Taylor appeared at the Santa Cruz Petty Sessions Court on Tuesday (Jan. 12) in the company of his attorney, Velma Hylton, to have the court date set for his case.
Taylor’s charges stem from a December 31 incident that took place in Junction, SE St. Elizabeth.
The 25-year-old cricketer, who sustained a back injury during the first Test of the recent tour of Australia, was reportedly sitting with friends at the establishment when a police officer entered and attempted to warn the bartender that he was open beyond the set time limit in Jamaica’s laws governing the sale of spirits.
Taylor then attempted to intervene between the two and, according to the police, became abusive and used coarse language. When the officer attempted to handcuff Taylor, the situation reportedly escalated even further and resulted in Taylor’s arrest.
Despite being forced out from the recent tour of Australia, Taylor is one of the more senior members of the West Indies’ bowling attack and is generally seen as a leader of the pace attack. To date he has 29 Tests and 62 One Day Internationals to his name.
