Basseterre, Saint Kitts, October 09, 2026 (SKNIS): Twenty males and eight females successfully completed six months of gruelling physical and mental training along with an intensive study of police subjects, and have now officially graduated as full-fledged constables in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

The sacrifices and accomplishments of Police Recruit Course #47 were recognised during a Passing Out Ceremony held at the Newtown Playing Field on Thursday, October 08, 2026. The recruits formed two platoons and were inspected by Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, before marching by in slow and quick time. Inspector Marvin Thompson, Commandant of the Police Training School, led the parade. Platoon One was led by Police Constable (PC) D’Angelo Thompson, while Cadet Cwana Francis headed Platoon Two. Francis’ designation as a Cadet will change to Woman Police Constable (WPC) when she celebrates her 18th birthday in the coming days.

The Course began on March 16, 2026. Inspector Thompson noted that the mission at the Police Training School is to produce a highly skilled, physically alert and reliable police officer, equipped with the knowledge and expertise that will enable him or her to meet the challenges of today.

With training now complete, he said, "We release them to go forth into the world of professional policing. We release them not to make a name for themselves, but to make a positive difference in the communities they serve. We release them as a vanguard of a young generation of officers who will serve their nation with pride, professionalism and dignity.”

Number (No.) 500, Constable Zavian Harris’ performance during training earned him the title of Best Recruit, receiving the Baton of Honour from Commissioner of Police, James Sutton, the Prime Minister’s Plaque, presented by Acting Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, and the Best Recruit Trophy. PC Harris also received awards for Best at Weapons Training and Best at Pistol Shot.

No. 488 D’Angelo Thompson earned awards for Best at Self Defence, Best at Drills, and Best at Kit. The Best at Rifle Shot Award went to No. 484 Tejohn Braide; Best at Police Exams, Tyrese Anderson; Best at Final Exam, Cadet Cwana Francis; and No. 492 Nathan Huggins was the Most Improved. The award for Best at Physical Training was shared by No. 489 K’Quancia Fraser and No. 482 Raheim Browne, while No. 491 Ian Lewis and No. 496 Gerisha Grant shared the Most Disciplined Award.Photo:

Commissioner of Police, James Sutton, congratulated the 28 members of Police Recruit Course #47. He encouraged them as they move forward into this new career path to remain grounded in their training and values, as there will be many challenging days ahead.

He implored the new police officers to “Be courageous but not reckless, be firm but always fair, be confident but remain humble, be vigilant but also compassionate”, adding that they must uphold the public trust the badge carries.
