BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — The 2026/2027 SKNFA Division 1 League kicked off on Thursday, October 8, at the Atiba Harris Sports Complex in St. Peter’s, with Trevor Fraites and Associates Molineux FC and CIBC Village Galaxy both recording 2-0 victories.
Village Galaxy overcame St. Kitts Concrete Masters Sandy Point FC, scoring twice in the second half to secure all three points after a goalless opening period. Jaheem Charles scored in the 49th minute, while Renardo Madurie added a second in the 82nd minute to secure Village Galaxy’s 2-0 victory over Sandy Point FC.
Following the match, Village Galaxy Manager Ashton Davis expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance as they began their campaign with a victory.
“I would say it was an intense game; I wouldn't lie. The opponents did put up quite a fight,” he said. “They played a much better second half than they did in the first half. I think they were a bit off, I don't know if it's because it's the first game... but I saw execution when it comes to what we would have done in practice drills, we would have run, the way you're supposed to do this, etc.
And I love the fact that when subs were made, when Coach Jevon would have made the subs, you saw the integration just happening almost instantaneously.”
He added: “For me, I would say I'm extremely proud of the team. Back to the drawing board again, work to do, see where the strengths are, praise them, see where the weaknesses are, see where we can develop, etc.”
Despite the defeat, Sandy Point FC Coach Jacquan Hazel said he was encouraged by aspects of his team's performance.
“I think there's some positives, but first I have to congratulate the team that we played on the three points, but positives are; I think we played a good first half, we had some good chances I think we should have capitalized on. I think that's something to do with more training and more finishing,” he said.
In the opening match on Thursday, Molineux FC defeated Rivers FC 2-0, with Ronald Williams opening the scoring in the second minute before Davantoy Carty sealed the victory in the 81st minute.
The action continued on Friday at the Saddlers Playing Field, where Mantab FC produced a dominant display to defeat Conaree Fireballs International 4-0.
Kirae Jarvis broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, and Rawle Benjamin doubled Mantab's advantage four minutes later. Alphonso Francis added a third three minutes into the second half, before Jermaine Carey completed the scoring in the 88th minute.
On Saturday, ELCO Ltd Security Forces United recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over KFC Trinity/Challengers United at the Atiba Harris Sports Complex. Donyelle Francis scored twice, while Joshua Finch and Shama Walters also found the net. C’Steve Wrensford scored the lone goal for Challengers.
The opening weekend concluded on Sunday at the Saddlers Playing Field, where Mother Becky’s Tea Saddlers United and Tropical Blossom Hotspring Bath United played to a goalless draw.
