BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are currently investigating an incident in which an unidentified armed man or men last evening (Jan. 14) stole a firearm from the Fire Hall at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport.
Information reaching this media house last night stated that three men had entered the airport compound from the northern side, stuck up a guard, fired a number of shots and stole a shotgun from the Fire Hall. The Fire Hall is a branch of the Federation’s Fire and Rescue Services based at the RLB International Airport.
The information also indicated that the airport was “temporarily shut down” and work was disrupted. However, when contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd dismissed this aspect of the information as a rumour and declared that work had and still continues as normal.
This was also confirmed by SKNVibes on arrival at the airport sometime after 8:00 last night, where everything had seemed to be normal. Questions were also asked and most employees said they were unaware of the incident.
In response to some questions posed by this media house, Liburd declared that the police could not ascertain the amount of persons involved in the incident at this stage of their investigations, but confirmed that a shotgun was stolen.
“At about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, it was reported that an armed unidentified man or men had entered the premises of the Fire Hall at the RLB International Airport and stole a shotgun. Investigations are ongoing,” Liburd said.
