Berriscia says Thanks

Press Release

    Wins her 5th crown

On December 30th, 2009- I represented our nation in the 30th annual Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant and was named co-winner.

For a brief moment during the coronation, I was mystified as a double winner seemed unique, yet historic, however, I soon became ecstatic for I had done my best to make my country shine and very importantly St. Kitts had been again awarded the top spot. Throughout the preparatory stages, I was always cognizant of our motto: “Country above self.”

The experience was one of excitement, hard work, tears and commitment. My success would not have been possible had it not been for the selflessness of several kindhearted individuals who diligently rendered their assistance to ensure that St. Kitts was well represented. I give thanks to the Lord for serving as my guiding light through it all.

Preparing for a pageant of this caliber is never easy and so keeping God first is vital in ensuring success. I am grateful to my mother, Sandra Roberts, my father, Berrisford Byron and my step-father, Raphael Hendricks for their continued and unwavering support. Sincerest gratitude is extended to my hard-working chaperone duo - Ozelle Martin and Iantavian Queeley - .

Thank you for pushing me through it all especially the times when I had to experience tough love. I will always remember your words: “Pain is Gain!” and “Success does not come without hard work.” We all worked hard and we were rewarded.

A special thank you to Julie Martin and Heidi Slack whose advice proved invaluable, also Genieve Hanley, Sandra Wallace and Vanessa Pinard for their assistance.

I am also thankful for the help from Trent Sargeant of Burn It, Melbourne of St. Vincent, GQ of WinnFM and Val Henry of VH Communications. A hearty thank you goes out to the National Carnival Committee for their sponsorship which enabled me to be fully prepared for this pageant.

All of the members of the Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Organizing Committee should be congratulated for continuing to showcase Caribbean teenage talent on a yearly basis. Thank you to all my supportive relatives, friends and fans.

You kind and positive words encouraged me and made me more determined to capture my fifth crown, a feat which I knew to be achievable. I know I will enjoy my reign as the Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Queen 2009 - 2010 and eagerly look forward to carrying on this wonderful tradition.

Happy New Year and God bless you all.
