BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 14TH 2010 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will officially cement his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s bid for re-election on Friday.
Friday 15th is Nomination Day for the January 25th General Election and the Labour Party will nominate candidates for all 8 constituencies on St. Kitts.
Incumbent Minister of Public Works, Utilities, Transport and Posts, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin seeks re-election in St. Christopher 1 (East Basseterre); Incumbent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth Affairs, Labour, Social Security, Information and Technology, Hon. Sam Condor seeks re-election in St. Christopher # 3 (West Basseterre); Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Security, Immigration, Sustainable Development, Tourism, Sports and Culture, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas; Minister of Finance, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris is seeking re-election in St. Christopher 7 (Belle Vue to Ottley’s) and Minister of Housing, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Cedric Liburd seeks re-election in St. Christopher 8 (Ottley’s –Cayon-Conaree and St. Peters).
New candidates for the Labour Party are Ms. Marcella Liburd in St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre); Mr. Glen “Ghost” Phillip in St. Christopher 4 (Challengers to New Guinea) and Dr. Norgen Wilson, in St. Christopher 5 (Sandy Point and Fig Tree).
Nominations are from 10 Am to 12 Noon and 2:00 PM to 4:00 P.M. at the Basseterre Police Station (#1); Anglican Church Hall (#2); St. Johnston Police Station (#3); Old Road Police Station (#4); Sandy Point Police Station (#5); St. Paul’s Police Station (#6); Tabernacle Police Station (#7) and Cayon Police Station (#8).
Party sources state that the Labour Party Nominated Candidates will be presented at The Circus at 2:00 PM and attend a Labour Rally & Lime in Mount Idle, Sandy Point at 8 P.M.
The Labour Party held 7 0f the 8 seats on St. Kitts in the outgoing National Assembly. The position People’s Action Movement (PAM), the other St. Kitts seat. Of the three seats in Nevis, the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) held two and the other was held by the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP).
The PAM is expected to contest the 8 seats on St. Kitts and the CCM and NRP the three seats on Nevis.
