CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - THE Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) yesterday morning (Jan. 15) nominated Hon. Vance Amory, Hon. Mark Brantley and newcomer Alexis Jeffers as the three candidates who will represent the party at the Federal Elections scheduled to be held on January 25.

Members of the party’s executive and supporters escorted Amory, Brantley and Jeffers to the three police stations on the island, where the Returning Officers waited for the candidates to sign the nomination papers.

Hon. Vance Amory, who is defending his St. George’s seat, presented his nomination papers at the Gingerland Police Station to Kelvin Daly. He was nominated by Orlis Eliiott and Myron Jeffers.

Hon. Brantley, who is defending his St. John’s/St. Paul’s seat, presented his nomination papers at the Charlestown Police station to Alsted Pemberton and he was nominated by Colin Tyrell and Dennis Browne, while St. James’s/St. Thomas’ candidate Jeffers, presented his papers at the New Castle Police station. He was all smiles on leaving the police station after presenting his nomination papers to Eileen Walwyn after being nominated by Hon. Jean Harris and Claude Nisbett.

Interviewed by SKNVibes immediately after the completion of the nomination exercise, Amory said he was happy that the nomination process was completed.

“We decided to come early and have that done because it is the official step towards being elected. The next step is for supporters and candidates to go back and talk to the people about the issues in the next 10 days,” Amory said.

He declared that his party would bring national issues to the campaign platform among which he described as a declining economy, crime, education and security.

The party’s leader noted that Nevis needed capable representation.

“CCM candidates are capable of articulating all these issues; all the three candidates are capable,” he said.

Asked to comment on a rumour circulating that the People’s Action Movement and CCM have formed an alliance, Amory categorically denied its existence and described it as a propaganda tactic.

Shortly after Brantley presented his papers, he told reporters, “We will capture all the three seats.”
