BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A Kittitian residing in the USVI has made his 10-year vision a reality by compiling a number of old love songs, which were regularly sung by Kittitians in the olden days, into a collector’s item.

According to Seymour ‘Talco’ Davis, the man with the vision, the album is titled ‘Talco Presents Slow Jams from St. Kitts’. He said that it is an 11-track album, all of which are hits from local artistes who were considered good in the music business back the in ‘golden’ days.

Music lovers now have the opportunity to be stunned by music from as far back as 1978 by Eddie ‘Staxx’ Glasford, Margaret Arthurton, Mick Stokes, Oswald 'Ham' Caines, Ben Jax and Shelly Daniel among others.

Davis, who said he has been into music for a very long time, declared that the more mature residents in the Federation would love to get their hands on an album like this, because it is the first time a compilation of such type has been done.

Davis, who left St. Kitts in 1986, said, “I have always contended that St. Kitts’ music is much more than ‘Jam and Wine’. We had excellent slow jams. Who could forget ‘Soul Carnival’ and the battles between Bobby J, Oliver Glasford and Mr. Soul? I could remember listening and singing ‘She Is Not There’ by Mick Stokes, over and over again. Remember the group, ‘Black Love’? I wanted to produce this CD to remind people of the good times.”

Davis said although it was hard getting the album done, he did it as promised years ago. He said he had to seek permission for the use of the songs, as they were not all originally done by these persons and he also had to pay the singers to use their voice.

He pointed out that track 11 was the only track he did over as it was originally done by Mick Stokes but was redone by his son Tabari Davis.

“This song is my favorite so I wanted to add a personal touch,” he said.

The Slow Jams album will be released for Valentine’s Day and will be on sale in St. Kitts by Ava Henry, JC Gift's N Things, Al 'Bertie' Elmes and at Mini Walls. However, persons interested in purchasing the album can also contact Davis at 340-513-4045, 340-777-1744 or via Email at sestd.4@gmail.com.
