    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 15TH 2006  Former St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Hon. Sir Kennedy Simmonds has been named to the National Cancer Coalition International Advisory Council.

     

    The National Cancer Coalition (NCC) also announced the other members as

     

     Hon. Dr. Jose A. Alvarado; Hon. Luis A. Castiglioni; Arthur A. Demarest, Ph.D.; Lelei LeLaulu; Alvaro J. Pereira and Linda Pfeiffer, Ph.D.

     

    "We are pleased to have such an internationally respected group of global leaders and non-profit executives to assist the National Cancer Coalition in its overseas development and relief programmes," said President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert B. Landry, III.

     

    Landry added: "At NCC, we imagine a world where all cancer patients receive treatment and have hope for a healthier and full life.  The humanitarian spirit of this International Advisory Council will be a great asset for NCC in achieving its goals."

     

    The Council unites a diverse group of accomplished individuals with vast experience in business, government, and non-profit operations.  Their lives have been touched by cancer and they are pleased to be making a contribution to reducing the incidence of cancer and assisting needy individuals across the globe to get the best treatments possible.

     

    Dr. Alvarado brings a wealth of governmental experience having served as Nicaragua's Minister of Health and as Minister of Education.

     

    Mr. Castiglioni serves as the Vice President of the Republic of Paraguay, where he is a respected statesman both nationally and internationally.

     

    A renowned archeologist, Dr. Demarest is the Ingram Professor of Anthropology at Vanderbilt University. 

     

    Mr. LeLaulu is President and CEO of the humanitarian organization Counterpart International.

     

    Mr. Pereira is the Executive Director of the American-Nicaraguan Foundation.  Dr. Pfeiffer is President and CEO of international relief organization INMED Partnerships for Children.

     

    A practicing anesthesiologist, Dr. Simmonds served as the Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis for 14 years.

     

    NCC, a not-for-profit corporation headquartered in New Orleans, LA, supports cancer relief, research and educational programmes throughout the world.

     

    hrough its Angel Grants program, NCC supports cutting-edge pediatric cancer research.  The NCC Provides program provides financial resources for needy cancer patients in the United States.

     

    NCC' international medical assistance program, termed NCC Cares, provides requested pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and hospital supplies to public hospitals and local humanitarian organizations that help needy patients in over 25 developing countries around the world.

     

    The Coalition also develops and distributes educational materials, resources, and televised public service announcements.
