COTTON GROUND, Nevis - THE Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) launched its manifesto last evening (Jan. 18) in Cotton Ground in the presence of a large number of supportes, and among the party’s executives were Nevis’ Premier Hon. Joseph Parry and the three nominated candidates for the January 25 Federal Elections.

Premier Parry presented the manifesto upon which the cover page features campaign slogans - “Performance Counts”, “The Right Choice”, “One Voice…Vote N.R.P”, amidst shouts of jubilation by supporters. He launched it amidst humorous complaints by candidates and supporters that the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) had told voters that NRP would cast their votes on January 26 while CCM voters would do so on January 25.

Some of the manifesto’s contents highlight what the NRP has done since taking office in 2006, which include the building 190 houses in a period of three years while CCM built 122 houses in 14 years, exploration of geothermal energy, launching a middle level training programme where youths are trained in Trinidad. According to the manifesto NRP plans to build a total of 300 houses.

Also highlighted in the manifesto is what the NRP describes as an agricultural revolution since taking over leadership of the island. It also speaks to the Homework Assistance Programme; the Sea Bridge, a project that is benefiting the Federation and one that is being highly criticised by the CCM. Additionally, it addresses the social programmes initiated by NRP that other islands are copying.

The manifesto further speaks to the Road Reconstruction Project and the sensitivity as well as compassion in which the NRP handled the 600 employees laid off by the Four Seasons Resort after that entity was significantly damaged by hurricane Omar.

“The leadership which you have come to trust will be fortified to work even better for you if the three NRP candidates are given the nod by you voters, and this will work out better for all of us regardless of our political persuasion.

“The three candidates we are offering you, Hensley Daniel in Nevis Nine, Patricia Hnaley in Nevis 10, and the incumbent Patricia Nisbett in Nevis 11, are custodians of the work we have already started.  Apart from youth, in Patrice Nisbett, the NRP is the only party that has a woman candidate because we fully recognise the very important role women play in the society. They are the homemakers and having one of them at the very top of our hierarchy means that we will all be better homemakers, as we have a strong person to emulate,” Parry said.

“By having a strong voice in the Federal Parliament, we will be able to network better not only with the Federal government but with regional governments as well. You all have witnessed the great interest our work on geothermal has raised in the region,” he added.
