Basseterre, St. Kitts(15th March 2006)- Creating opportunities for citizens to benefit from the Tourism industry, is the purpose of a new project being spearheaded by the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism. The project is called the Small Enterprise Accommodation Development Programme.
With the tourism sector expected to grow steadily over the coming years, in tandem with the fact that the Federation is a host venue for the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2007 (ICC CWC 2007); a drive is underway to develop a small accommodation sector, in order for Kittitians to access the potential benefits to be generated from the opportunities that are now at hand. At present there are two main types of accommodation that are being targeted. These are (1) Small non-hotel accommodation, specifically Guest Houses and Inns and (2) Home Accommodation (Bed & Breakfast, rooms to let & Apartments).
In explaining the project, Consultant, Rosecita Jeffers, said, "Individuals are encouraged to complete the requisite forms located at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, in order for their properties to be eligible for the project. Once approved, the properties will be registered with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and marketed on its website and within the overall marketing drive of the destination. Training will also be available."
The St. Kitts Tourism Authority has as its mandate the development and promotion of the island's tourism product.
