CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – KINSLEY TYSON THOMAS, also known as Crabby, of Craddock Road, Nevis, alleges that some members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force stole a quantity of cash from him during a search of his home.
“I want the public to know that the police are thieves and murderers. I don’t have to lie, they thief my money. It is not the first time they do it to me, but it is the first time I got witness,” Thomas told SKNVibes.
Thomas, who owns some six fishing vessels and five nets, said that just after 9:00 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 15), a number of police officers entered his premises and without a warrant began searching his yard and his girlfriend’s dwelling place.
He said that during the search of his yard, the officers found a number of bags containing cannabis sativa, but one of them did not contain the illegal drug as claimed by the lawmen.
“The police officers approached my premises just after 9:00 that evening without a warrant and began searching my premises. They also indicated that they want to search my girlfriend’s room and I told them they have to get a female officer to accompany them while doing so. But one of the officers said, ‘She foot sick’.
“The officers began searching the yard and they found two dime bags with cannabis. They walked around the house and picked up an old plastic bag and claimed that it contained weed. But that plastic bag looked like it was there for over 10 years. They continued to search and came upon some soda boxes in which they found two more bags with cannabis inside. The officers then decided to search my girlfriend’s room and, again, I asked them to do so in the presence of a female officer, and I got the same response…‘She foot sick’”, Thomas contended.
He also claimed that prior to searching his girlfriend’s room, the officers went into another part of his home where he keeps his fishing nets and found nothing there. This room, he added, is where his employees from St. Kitts would sleep when staying overnight on Nevis.
Thomas noted that there were 10 men in his yard when the officers entered and while some of them were playing a game of dominoes, the others were “just cooling”, and they complied when the lawmen requested that they get up from their seats.
“They handcuffed my hands behind my back and three of the officers entered the house. While searching in the house, they took two brown envelopes with EC$250 each in them along with EC$5 000 and US$681. I have not seen these money since that night and I don’t know who thief them, but I do know police went with them. I begged them to count my money in front of me and everybody before leaving my yard, because I know they gon thief it…and the officer replied, This is government money and we will confiscate it.
“The 10 men along with my girlfriend and I were transported to the station in Charlestown in a police vehicle, while the money they took from my home was in another vehicle. When we reach the station the police brought some $20 bills and some $10 bills in front of me and count them. I told them that is not my money. The money that they removed from my home had many hundred and fifty dollar bills, but what they counted before me was not the same.”
Thomas is also accusing the police of brutality.
“The stinkest place in the world is the Charlestown Police Station. While there, the police came in my cell and push a stick in my neck. I don’t know his name but he is a Dominican and I am going the last degree with him.”
Inspector Andrea Mitchell was contacted concerning the matter and he told this media house that Thomas and 11 others were arrested and charged for possession and possession with intent to supply.
He also said that a quantity of marijuana and some money were found on Thomas’ premises and all items are secured in police custody because the matter is before the court. When asked about the alleged missing money, the Inspector said Thomas’ allegations were false.
