    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 23rd 2010 (Labour Secretariat) – Despite the global crisis, Dr. Timothy Harris, the Parliamentary Representative of Constituency Seven, had brought about enormous growth and development to St. Kitts and Nevis, and has pledged to continue on the path of visionary leadership once re-elected.

     

    Dr. Harris has declared his plan for a vibrant and progressive Constituency Seven (Belle Vue to Ottleys), which reflects a successful post colonial society. Referring to the many challenges faced with within his constituency, Dr. Harris expressed the desire of continuing representation for the people, irrespective of their political affiliation.

     

    He declared that the young men within his Constituency would be positively enhanced.

     

    “We will have our young men and women and their parents gainfully, productively and responsibly engaged. Our people will find work as self-employed persons – taxi operators, business men and women, farmers, tour operators, and also in various clerical and administrative positions,” he said.

     

    Harris noted that he would continue on the path of determination towards ensuring effective representation for the people of Constituency Seven. He said because of the work that he has been doing as the Parliamentary Representative since 1993, it has sought to give hope that the vision of a “united, free, prosperous and humane” Constituency could be realized in the face of adversity.

     

    Dr. Harris noted that there are several initiatives that would help bring the vision into reality during his next term in office.

     

    “The initiatives of a new university catering to foreign students will give boost to home construction and commercial life in the area. Two new hotels: one in Ottleys Estate and Eco Tourism Facility in Mansion Estate; Botanical Garden in the upper region of Mansion Estate/Phillips; an upgraded Mary Charles Medical Centre providing X-rays, Laboratory work, etc.; commercial and industrial park catering inter alia to mechanic and automotive support services – welding, bodyworks, painting of vehicles; craft vendors and branches of other entities looking space beyond C. A. Paul Southwell facility,” Harris said.

     

    “An alternative Energy Project - Wind Farm at Belle Vue Estate; continuation of housing construction throughout the Constituency; community life to be strengthened with a Day Care Centre in Molyneux; a multi-purpose facility in Phillips’ with women’s training centre, games room, ICT facilities, a hurricane shelter and also a community centre; football stadiums in Molineux and Ottleys; upgrade and expansion of all other sporting facilities – basketball, cricket, domino and basketball leagues to continue; mentoring of the young by members of the Defence and Police Forces as well as other responsible adults, Support Sunday school and summer school programmes and youth support groups will be encouraged and sponsored,” he noted.

     

    He pointed out that during his 16-odd years of representing the people of his Constituency, a number of accomplishments were made with the people being able to realize significant growth and development.

     

    He said that under his continued representation the people his constituency will continue to see improved and expanding social services. He also pledged to continue to work for an enhanced community, which would create unity among persons from the various political parties.

     

    Dr Harris added that his primary focus is to ensure that more persons living within his Constituency are empowered to live a more fulfilling life.
