CCM Celebrates: Amory, Brantley make CCM supporters proud

Supporters mob Mark Brantley

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis -  IT was a rare spectacle yesterday morning (Jan. 26) as scores of supporters of the Concerned Citizens Movement(CCM) drove into Charlestown and converged at the party’s campaign headquarters at Sea Spawn Guest House shortly after the Supervisor of Elections announced Mark Brantley winner of Constituency Number Nine, regarded by many  as the “hottest” Federal Seat in Nevis.

This is the second time that Brantley has been victorious against the Hon. Hensley Daniel. He first captured the Seat two years ago in a By-election after the death of the former Minister of Tourism in Nevis, Malcolm Guishard.

The leader of the Opposition in Nevis, Hon. Vance Amory, retained his St. George’s Seat which Patricia Hanley had twice unsuccessfully attempted to capture. CCM’s newcomer Alexis Jeffers was unable to capture the St. Thomas’/St. James’ Seat which went to Patrice Nisbett of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP).

Supporters blew whistles and celebrated their party’s victory and later joined an island wide motorcade.

And Hensley Daniel congratulated his opponent during a telephone contact mid-morning.
In his victory speech, Brantley thanked his voters and called on leaders in Nevis to speak with one voice in the Federal Parliament. He described the intense contest between him and Daniel as “healthy”.

Speaking during the victory celebrations, Amory said: “The party is stronger than ever. Some people thought we had gone to sleep after 2006, but we are alive and people are responding to capable leadership.

At press time, SKNVibes had not been successful in contacting Patrice Nisbett, Alexis Jeffers and Patricia Hanley.
