BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DOZENS gathered at the southern end of Shear Lane yesterday (Jan. 27) after police had responded to sounds of gunshots in the early afternoon.
Around 12:20 p.m. yesterday, SKNVibes responded to a call informing that there was a shooting incident in the vicinity of Shear Lane. Upon arriving on the scene, heavily armed police officials were seen at the end of the street seemingly searching for evidence.
While on the scene, police officers confirmed that a shooting incident did take place, but were unable to give further information.
A police press statement released late yesterday afternoon gave more details into the incident, adding that no one had been injured.
“On Wednesday 27th January 2010 police at Basseterre responded to a report of gunshots heard at about 12:10 at Shear Lane. Police investigations revealed that Elroy Cannonier of Neverson Street East, Newtown who is in his early twenties was shot at at Shear Lane. Cannonier escaped without injury,” the statement reads.
There has been no arrest made in relation to the shooting as yet, but police stated that they have launched a search for a suspect.
