    Wednesday, January 27 – The Ministry of Communications and Works convened a meeting of its top management and heads of departments to plan strategies for achieving the mandate of the ministry.

     

    Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Julian Fraser RA, who attended the meeting on Wednesday, introduced the Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Julian Willock and addressed them on teamwork and commitment in achieving Government’s objectives.
     
    “In order for the Ministry to be successful and fulfil Government’s  work programme, heads of departments will have to follow instructions, be consistent, disciplined, cooperative and accept and respect the person sitting in the seat,” Minister Fraser said during his brief remarks.
     
    The minister added, “The ministry has a lot of work to do and the only way it will be done is if we all pull together.”  He encouraged them to give their support to the ministry to elevate the ministry to new heights so that all can be a part of the success of the BVI.
     
    Deputy Governor Mrs. V. Inez Archibald was invited to the meeting to give a motivational speech.  During her presentation Mrs Archibald told stories to help illustrate her message of respect, punctuality, responsibility, confidentiality and ability to see the big picture.
     
    “We are losing the respect for our elders.  We need to restore respectability to elders by age and by position,” the Deputy Governor said.
     
    “You have to respect the office; there should be confidentiality in the service, and it is your responsibility to carry out the policies of Government,” the Deputy Governor said as she imparted her words of wisdom.
     
    As part of the meeting agenda, heads reported on the status of their departments and was able to benefit from some of the suggestions made by their colleagues.
     
    Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Julian Willock told the Department of Information and Public Relations he was pleased with the outcome of the meeting and looks forward to increased productivity from every department and a renewed commitment in achieving government’s objectives.
     
    The Ministry of Communications and Works is the parent ministry for the BVI Fire and Rescue Services, Public Works, Vehicle Licensing and Water and Sewerage departments and Electrical Inspection, Facilities Management, and Telephone Services Management units.  It also oversees three statutory bodies, the BVI Airports Authority, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the BVI Electricity Corporation.
