BVI GIS Press Release
Thursday, January 28 – The Ministry of Communications and Works will be offering training sessions for livery drivers beginning today, January 28 in an effort to ensure that livery service businesses are in compliance with the road traffic regulations of 2009.

“These training sessions are being conducted to help livery drivers obtain certification as it is a legal requisite in acquiring a livery permit,” Acting Deputy Secretary, Mrs. Myrna Ferdinand told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

“To accommodate the industry, course offerings will be based on requests received,” Mrs Ferdinand said. Persons wishing to take advantage of the training opportunities can call the Ministry of Communications and Works at 468-2183 to register.

Companies which conduct tour and shuttle services using CM plates are required to have their drivers receive the correct permits in order to change to the appropriate livery service plate.

“We encourage businesses to utilize this opportunity because beginning March 1, persons driving with unauthorised CM plates or those who are not in compliance with the law will be subjected to a $500 fine,” Mrs. Ferdinand concluded.

Government is seeking the cooperation and support of all parties involved to make the transitions as smooth as possible. The license plate transfers are part of efforts to provide efficient and accurate services in vehicle licensing matters and to enhance drivers’ safety in compliance with the road traffic legislation of the Territory.
