ROSEAU, Dominica – TWO calypsonians, who have had their Carnival 2010 music banned from the Dominican airwaves, are now back on stream, but the verdict on a third contestant is still in waiting.

This announcement was made by the Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Calypso Associan, Ian Jackson, who said that ‘Looking for they pocket’ by Yakima and ‘Ma Dominics Garbage Bin’ by Prosper, which were about the recently-held elections and the Government of Dominica, were both banned but after being reviewed are now on the airwaves.

He however informed that the verdict is still pending on ‘Dr. Finger’ by Sye.

SKNVibes has learnt that the songs were banned by the radio stations due to fear of being sued by the individuals to whom the lyrics address.

DBS Radio Chairman Aurelius Jolly stated that the decision not to air certain calypsos was made to protect the radio station from legal action.

But Jackson said calypso was born out of the ordinary man poking fun at persons in society or things, whether in social commentary or wit.

“We have no major issues with the songs being banned because it makes the songs even more popular, which encourages the calypsonians,” Jackson said.

Although his song has been banned from the station, Sye can still perform the song onstage and in competitions.

He will be competing in the upcoming calypso Semi-Finals on January 30.

If he makes the cut for the Finals, he will be competing on February 13 against the reigning Monarch, Lord Karessah.
